CHANGES OF MUSIC - 65 Sound Images presenting I CHING, the "Book of Changes"
What is this project about?
CHANGES OF MUSIC is a Web Music Project completely based on Freesounds made by hundrets of sound creators all over the world - i.e., really true "Web Music" or "Freesound Music". Each of the 65 pieces represents a specific "Sound Image" that is linked to one of the I CHING topics.
What are "Sound Images"?
"Sound Images" are intended to be heared just in the background, serving as a kind of "non-listening" music. This could be in a Night Club, at home, while working, just when being busy with other things but an inspiring atmosphere would be nice.
Therefore "Sound Images" are quite static in nature, you can enter them, leave them, whenever and wherever you like.
You can treat them as a kind of an "acoustic screen saver". Consequently, screen saver images (the amazing Electric Sheep ones that I suggested already on the portal) have been used to provide a visual background as well.
What is I CHING about?
So what is the connection with I CHING, which is 5000 years old Chinese philosophy? The answer is simple - YOU create this connection, YOU CHING:
1. Identify the topic, for example, "The Coupling".
2. Look for this topic in Wikipedia, locate the Hexagram explanation, for example Hexagram for Coupling, or even better, try to get a copy of that book and read about the whole idea.
3. Go back to the music and try to find the spirit of that idea in the music, and - if you like - also in the video.
4. Not convinced? - Maybe try it then with another connection??
How should I listen to the pieces?
The pieces can be played in different ways:
1. To use them simply as audio files, go to sound files.
2. To play them as video, go to the video section of this site.
3. You can learn about different playlists ideas in the YouTube publication of this series (for better video and audio quality use the video play at this - the freesound.ning - site):

Related music and a bit of philosophy...
For those of you who know John Cage's opus "Music of Changes" will find out, that the idea of "Changes of Music" is exactly the opposite of what John's aesthetic position usually suggests: Instead of listening with emphasis for everything in our surrounding that sounds AS IT WOULD BE MUSIC, "Changes of Music" are in fact music you shouldn't listen to, but hear it as ENVIRONMENTAL (but musical) sound.
This is not a new concept, but in the "Changes of Music" you will find a few new things - I call it "principles of squarefree music" - that could produce some new waves we will find later in other "listening" experiences, getting it more and more to consciousness. (Is "Music of Changes" a Trojan Horse??)
Other projects
A collection of broken dance music - or should I say, another kind of break dance music - can be found here: "BREAKIN' BARS".
Beside that - other projects are being prepared to realize some more sophisticated listening experiences. So if you are bored with the current stuff - because you are listening and not hearing ;-) - you might be suprised later on!
