+++ WHEN SOUNDS MEET - JUST AS PEOPLE +++

English      (German)

The „Fuga for Eight Players“ can be played by one up to eight players (next performance, see replies below).

For each player, a computer with Internet access and a standard Internet browser with Adobe Shockwave plug-in (free available) is required. Each of the eight voices is provided by a separate Sound Page, including playing instructions:

Voice 1
Voice 2
Voice 3
Voice 4
Voice 5
Voice 6
Voice 7
Voice 8

A smaller number of players, or just one player, can also use the Sound Page including all 8 voices at once:

Players that prefer a simplified playing experience or got in struggle with Shockwave can download the following ZIP folder and extract it anywhere on the computer. The PowerPoint projector included (FleX_02.pps or FleX_02bl.pps) should basically run on any environment:

The idea of the composition is to create an interplay that reaches similarity with the following FUGA sample

Fuga

in terms of a similar process, or in terms of a completely different process that still would reflect the same characteristics of a counterpoint interplay. In the center of this approach is the ability of the player group to discuss how to achieve such a process, to develop a strategy together as a group, to exercise and fulfill it, and eventually to present it to the public.

It is also very welcome to post the final sound results as replies to this discussion topic at this site. This would allow everyone to be able to compare the different results of different player groups. Additional uploads (concert photos, etc.) are highly appreciated.

An offline DVD can be purchased that will allow to perform the FUGA project without an Internet connection. Please contact Freed for more information.

The player group can use the below visualization of a Bach fugue kind of piece, presented by Stephen Malinowski, for further inspiration how to apply and interact with the sounds of the FUGA:

Presentation of this piece took place in December 2009, 4th, 7:30 PM in the Reynolds Recital Hall at Montana State University. It has been performed by the new Electric MONSTER laptop ensemble. "We took the liberty to add a piano player and a inside-piano player to your Spider Fugue. It sounds pretty cool for us." (Hsiao-Lan)
