Freesound Music

+++ WHEN SOUNDS MEET - JUST AS PEOPLE +++

RECITAL is a collection of Sound Enigmas that tries to focus on the rich life of sound interactions accross various sound areas discovered and created by freesounders.

I was thinking a lot how I could do achieve that without

  1. being trapped in a certain interaction model, to be able to move on to different sounds and interactions
  2. overcomplicating the sound relationships over the course of a piece when trying to achieve the upper point

The solution I found is simple:

  1. Each interaction model is kept within one sound scape, a limited number of classified sounds that talk to each other.
  2. The sound scapes have a defined relationship to each other, based on similarity or contrast.
  3. The change of models is driven by the classic Sonnet model, being abab cdcd efef gg, which allows a nice flow of repetition and moving forward.
  4. Each Sonnet is introduced by a little Prelude which focusses basically on one sound scape.

The result is a cycle of twelfe Preludes & Sonnets. If you would read about its creation, visit my sound blog right here.

The rendering of the music is done with the sound matrix called Freesound Navigator. Each piece got a certain way of visual distortion which relates to the character of the piece. In order to follow its creation through playing in real-time (!), a clean version is added to each piece as well (there are always various interpretations of one piece), which can be found in my sound blog.

Enjoy!
